At the end of the summer, NGS will be hosting the National Diploma Course conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).  This course is the equivalent of the USSF C-license and requires a significant time commitment. It is, however, a fantastic opportunity for the experienced coach. The course will be taught by NSCAA's outstanding staff and has received rave reviews from attendees.

You must already have a D-license or greater to attend this course.  For information, visit http://www.nscaa.com.

The objective of the Level I Goalkeeping course is to explore some of the myths surrounding the goalkeeping function. The six-hour course is directed towards the team coach, not the specialist goalkeeper coach. The object is to empower the coach with the knowledge and practice methods that will enable him/her to evaluate a goalkeeper in game situations and to then design practice sessions to meet the needs of the athlete. The course involves both classroom and field sessions.

Preventing and Managing Youth Sports Injuries:
What the Youth League Coach needs to know

Registration Brochure (PDF)

Dear Youth Sports Coaches,

Newton-Wellesley Hospital will host the Third Annual Youth Sports Safety Day on March 20, 2004. While soccer had been the primary focus the past two years, this yeai~s program has been expanded to address ways to prevent and manage the most common injuries associated with all youth sports.

As acbve youth league coaches, we have wodced closely with the physical therapists, athlelic trainers, medical doctors, and other clinicians at Newton-Wellesley to help develop a program that we believe will benefit all youth league coaches like you. and all youth athletes. This program has proven to be personally beneficial to us both on the sidelines during games and on the practice field, We feel this program will benelit all youth league coaches and interested parents.

Newton-Wellesley is committed to providing community health education, especially programs such as this one, to help youth athletes enjoy all of the benefits of team athletics. And, under the leadership of coaches who are informed about proper conditioning methods aimed at injury prevention, and injury management, should incidents occur, youth athletes increase their enjoyment every step of the way

Not unlike leaming CPR. the information provided in this day-long program is vitally important and requires continuous updating. All participants will receive a certificate of atten- dance, a comprehensive set of reference materials, and a first aid kit in preparation for the spring Spring season. Please be sure to review materials. ask questions of the presenters, and discuss ideas with fellow coaches, Yours in soccer,

Practice fields

Every Intramural coach should submit a practice field request form by  Wednesday, Sept 10, 2003 .  Before submitting your request, please check with your players' families, if that is part of your process, to insure that the submitted request will work with everyone's schedules. Because field space is always at a premium, please note that we are asking for your top three preferences for field location. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but not everyone can get the first choices. (If you want to maximize the chances of getting a first choice, select a Tuesday or Thursday practice.) Be sure to fill out the form completely and especially indicate any special circumstances our assignors need to know. Don't forget to click on the "submit request" button at the bottom of the form. You will be informed about your assigned fields as soon as possible via email.

Dear Youth Soccer Coaches,

Youth Soccer Safety Day was introduced by Newton-Wellesley Hospital in 2002, and a great success among attending soccer coaches.  In fact, this year's curriculum has been expanded to accommodate many requests from last year's participants.

Newton-Wellesley is committed to providing community health education, especially programs such as this one which will enable our youth to enjoy all the benefits of team athletics under the leadership of coaches who are informed about injury prevention.

Not unlike learning CPR, the information provided in this daylong program is vitally important and requires continuous updating.  All participants will receive a certificate of attendance, a comprehensive set of reference materials, and a first aid kit in preparation for the spring season.  Please be sure to review materials, ask questions of the presenters, and discuss ideas with fellow coches.
